We love our smartphone navigation systems, don’t we. They have taken all the guesswork out of finding our way no matter where we want to go! No more do we worry about finding our way! Those old folded up maps we keep in the glove compartments are no longer necessary! With a smartphone navigation system, all we have to do is plug in the address and the route pops up on the screen, and a voice begins to tell us what street or highway to turn on next, what traffic and road to avoid, and presto…we know we’ll get to the right destination!

If only we could have a smartphone navigation system to avoid the difficult moments and struggles of life! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to simply plug in our life’s wants and desires into a spiritual navigation system and ask it to avoid all the circumstances which would hurt or cause us pain! Can we imagine

But would really be wonderful? Would such a navigation system bring joy and hope in our lives? Probably not, for as Paul reminds us in our lesson for this week, the pain, sufferings, and problems we suddenly face can actually be opportunities for us to grow our faith and trust that God is our altimate Navigator who will us to guide us through it all. His words to the Corinthians: “For we walk by faith, not by sight” is a great reminder for us all that life is to be lived in a confident trust that God will lead us exactly to the place we need to go!

No matter where you might find yourselves right now or how lost you feel at the moment, come to worship this weekend as we celebrate that we walk by faith, and that will always be enough!
