Welcome to Vocation Month at Grace as we celebrate these next four weeks what is means to be called by God to a special work or job.

We start out with a “BIG” call of a former Egyptian prince- turned-fugitive wandering out in the desert when he stumbles upon a strange sight: a burning bush that doesn’t burn up!

Thus sets the scene of God calling Moses to a “BIG” vocation of delivering his people from slavery in Egypt. Overwhelmed and feeling totally inadequate, Moses argues for God to pick another. But with God’s call comes God’s promise: “I will be with you!” It seems to be enough and Moses starts his new vocation.

Yet this story is not just one of a “BIG” call to an extraordinary  vocation, but is also God’s “everyday” call for five rather surprising people to do some small things: two midwives who deliver and protect babies, a mother who protects her child by placing him in a basket, a sister who steps forward to provide for her brother, and finally an Egyptian princess who takes in a child not her own. Five rather bold women who answer God’s call to a special vocation, and thus thwarts the will of mighty Pharaoh and provides the means for God to save his people!

This weekend we begin our journey of challenge as we celebrate God has given us all a call to vocation! No matter who we are, what we are, or whether or not we think we can do it, we learn again that God’s promise of his presence will be enough.

In order to deepen your worship experience, please read the following scriptures before you come to church:  Exodus 1:8-22; 3:1-15 – Moses is given a new vocation: deliver God’s people from slavery. Mark 12:26-27a – Jesus answer the trick question about marriage in heaven.
