“Dad, how long till we get there?” It’s the age-old question asked by kids on family vacations everywhere.

But while it can seem like the children ask it hundreds of times during the course of a family vacation, it’s actually far fewer, according to a new survey.

The question is asked an average of nine times on a seven-day family vacation, according to Cambria Suites, a hotel chain. For parents of kids six and younger, however, you can expect to be asked the dreaded question 13 times. That doesn’t seem to bad, does it? (Unless your van is stuck in the middle of a road construction project and one of the kids needs to use the bathroom!)

Have you ever wondered how many times a person asks God, “How long, O Lord till… I get better? Or, I get over the pain of divorce? Or, I find love? Or, I kick this depression? Or, the list goes on and on! Although we parents don’t always welcome this question, do you think God does?

We get the answer by looking at Psalm 13 as the psalmist asks God in the midst of his or her pain and fear: “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” Wow! That’s quite the question, isn’t it! Honest, forthright, and right on the nose! And it seems as though it’s totally fine for a child of God to ask such a question!

This weekend we begin a 4 week study of the Book of Psalms as we look at some of the most real and honest parts of the Bible. Please come and celebrate not only a wonderful week of Vacation Bible School, but a loving God who welcomes any and all questions from his children!
