Romans 8 Lent SeriesJoin us for our Lent Services each Wednesday at 7:00 PM from March 12th thru April 9th! Lent Suppers are shared at 5:30 PM before each service.

Part 1: Gravity (March 12)
Is there hope to be found in the face of death? Children have a natural curiosity toward death. In contemporary culture, however, adults prefer not to contemplate their mortality. We speak of death in generalities. “Everyone dies someday,” we say. But we rarely seriously confront the fact that each of us, as individuals, will come to the end of our mortal lives. In preparation, please read Romans 8:1-2

Part 2: Bullseye (March 19th)
Do we find satisfaction and eternal life through our own efforts or through the work of Christ? Bullseye provides a parable or an extended metaphor on the Christian life. Wandering and lost, a couple comes upon a door. One, in particular, is intrigued by the thought of striving for perfection and winning his way through the door by himself. He fails, and immediately he is condemned. Yet the more he tries to hit the mark through his own strength and skill, the worse his condition becomes. His only hope is in the intervention of someone who can hit the perfect mark on his behalf. In preparation, please read Romans 8:3-4.

Part 3: Mindset (March 26th)
How do you view the world around you? At the beginning of the film, the narrator mentions the hotel that spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on the least efficient light bulbs, since the dim lighting will help hotel visitors feel better about themselves. “The worse the light, the better people look.”
It’s easy to go through life in the soft glow of a convenient light. We fear what a harsh light will reveal about us. So we keep our flaws hidden from our friends, our family and even from ourselves. In preparation, please read Romans 8:6.

Part 4: Chosen (April 2nd)
Do you live in light of God choosing you or do you take it for granted? The father told Bethany that he loved her before she became his. God chose us out of love before the foundation of the world. This ought to give us a strong sense of assurance. God chose us before we did anything admirable, while we were yet sinners. God chose us not because of who we are or what we’ve done, but because of the overflowing love in God’s character. In preparation, please read Romans 8:14-17.

Part 5: Inseparable (April 9th)
Are you afraid that different events in your life will separate you from God? Loretta loves her son without conditions; she will always continue to love him. Even though Loretta is fallible, we can see the deep care and concern she has for her son – and we know that the love of a parent is only a pale imitation of the love God has for his children. God is love, God is infinite, and God is unfailing. In preparation, please read Romans 8:35-39.
